Thankful Thursday

So today I am cleaning the house. I always seem to be cleaning the house, and yet it always seems to still be a mess. Haven't quite figured that one out yet, though it may have something to do with the fact that there are four 2-legged creatures living here, and five 4-legged creatures. Something about that combination doesn't so much cater to an immaculate abode.

But today, what I choose for myself is this: rather than bemoan the fact that I am putting in what might just be the seven billionth load of laundry this week, or that I'm sweeping the floors for, I swear to God, the third time this week, or that I've just loaded the dishwasher AGAIN, yet there are still dishes in the sink.... Rather than dwell on any of that, I have chosen to be thankful. Thankful that I have two beautiful, healthy, intelligent, sweet, messy kids to do laundry for. Thankful that I have what I always wanted when I was younger: a house full of animals to love on and be loved by, even if it means I have to sweep the floor endlessly. Thankful that I have a big, beautiful house filled with "stuff" that requires my attention.

What has put me in such a mood? Not sure, really. Could be the June edition of Real Simple magazine - those that read it might know which article has inspired me. Could just be that I'm having a good day. In any case, what are you thankful for? I'm sure there must be something.

  1. What a sweet post! I am also thankful for our messy house because it is full of love.. just the three of us, soon to be four (and lots of visiting family) but it is our home and I love it. Thanks for sharing and reminding me to be thankful!

  2. Leslie, thank you! And congrats on your "soon to be four". :) Sometimes we just have to let go of the perfection, huh?
